I'm fairly new at refurbishing estate pipes so I practice on cheap estate pipes. Wellingtons are perfect since there are a lot of them out there, they are inexpensive and hard to mess up too badly. So pictured below are a baby, mama and daddy Wellington family. I don't have "before" pictures, but you can trust that the finish on them were pretty bad when I got them.
So what I did after cleaning them up was to remove the old finish, sand, buff and restain. The middle, "mama" one was in not too bad shape. I used a walnut stain, then an ebony to highlight the carving. I may have overdone it on that one.
The "baby" still shows a bad fill. I may start over on that one. Sure am having fun doing this, though!
