So, despite seeing some pretty glowing reviews of SHPC's Great Hiatus (and also loving their VR Blend to death), my first impressions were not terribly positive. There was some unnameable funk in the tin and in the smoke that I just couldn't get behind. So for about a month, it's been hanging out in the bottom of my box in which reside my opened tins of latakia blends.
Today, however, I decided to give it another shot.
What a difference a month of being open can make. This turned sublime! The funk is still in the tin to a far lesser degree, but the smoke... Ahh, the smoke. Sweet, tangy, a little spicy. This has really transformed so much over such a short amount of time, I'm really quite awestruck.
So, in short:

~Time makes fools of us all.

~Don't like it? Leave it be; come back to it.

@roth, I agree. I even went so far as to have kept my first couple tins and pouches of some cheesy aros of which I wasn't and STILL am not a fan.
But that's the reason I bought some CH and Storm Front! Three Star China Black Vanilla Burley? BAM! Becomes smokable with some minor experimentation. Davidoff Danish and/or Scottish? Not good. But inherently salvageable.
Those last three: time has not helped. Adjustments featuring CH or SF and some McC Perique? Success!
I can't picture throwing something out which may be redeemed with a little effort. Or no effort, and just waiting.

I've had a couple blends like that. If I don't like something at first I just let it be for a while and come back to it. The only one that hasn't worked with for me is 1792 Flake. I tried several times and finally had to mix it with some other tobacco's to make it enjoyable.
