Congrats and Best Wishes aren't enough. You are about to go "where all men have gone before." Weird eats for the mother, big dreams for the father, grandparents hovering on every move. A new life.
I'll bet you're up for the challenge. Fire a bowl up for me and drink a smooth one to celebrate this fantastic news!

Congrats to you and your wife. In the early stages with a newborn, I am reminded of this quote:
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times".
hehe, but once you can get a full nights sleep, it's the best of times (but it goes so fast, cherish every moment).

Congrats and best of luck!

Being of the younger group here, I have no wise words or advice, but I can say I'm a little jealous in one way, and a little not in another! I'm sure there's a few serious stress-relieving smokes in your future, when you have time for them, but that won't be what you remember! Congrats again!

Consensus among most of my parent-friends is that, the only thing harder than the heavy labor of parenthood,

the twenty-four hour duty rearing them, and the life-long role of parent even with adult children, would be not

having their kids, and grandkids. Life is a big gift, not always pleasant, but almost always infinitely worth it.

Kind of an update for you guys.
We are one of those couples you see on tv. We found out yesterday my wife is already half way done, and it's a boy. It has now turned into rush and get everything done mode for me, my dad, and my father in law nursery wise.
It's goign to make an interesting story in a few years for sure.

Good luck, and congratulations! The bad is definitely outweighed by the good. It makes it all worth it with a smile, a "daddy!", or a run and hug. The best part of my day is when I get to pick up my son from daycare. And I get all 3 of those :)

Just a check in guys. My son was born on Valentine's Day night, and everyone is doing great. While I haven't been able to find time for my pipes recently, I still love reading the dialog on the forums. Have a great day everybody.

Congrats! My pipe smoking took a nose dive when my son was born, but well worth it.

Well, you're a couple of weeks into a whole new phase in life ... that of hunter/gatherer ...
In the days after our first was born and the realization that I had a undertaken a lot of responsibility, I saw in my mind, the image of a bird's nest containing several baby birds, all with their heads tilted back and their beaks open, waiting for worms to be dropped in ... and, it struck me that I was the one whose job it was to source the worms ... ergo, hunter/gatherer ...
You've heard the old expression about "getting up with the birds" ?? ... you're going to need to be up BEFORE the birds so you can have the worms ready when the birds get up ...
You've not said how the student part of your life is going ... I hope you're able to find the way to complete that task as you juggle the other balls that you are having to keep in the air ... that degree will come in very handy during the worm-gathering phase of your life since it will enhance your worm gathering credentials considerably and will make a huge difference in your options ...
Best wishes to you in the years ahead ... it's a challenging, but ultimately very rewarding experience ...

School is going really well sfsteves. Still making the deans list. I don't know if this is exclusive to being a night student, but I have the same 2 professors for practically every class now that im in 300+ level of classes. They are very understanding guys, one of which has younger kids right now, and the other who had his first while he and his wife were hip deep in their masters. They have bent over backwards to accommodate me. Even as far as taping lectures and posting them online while I was off the last two weeks.
My only hope is I am able to finish before he really notices I'm not around at night. Thanks for the concern though. :)
