Suitably clothed and shod, I am looking forward to setting around the fire on the deck with a great book. I admit to cheating in that I have a windbreak on the north, south, and east. These smokes have their own magic probably owing to a cheerful fire. Sure my favorite time is now, in the fall. This weekend I over indulged in my pipes and enjoyed every minute of it. Clear clean air abounding in sunshine with just the hint of crispness in the afternoon air. Birds and other wildlife scurrying about preparing for the cold to come. Boles of "Tom's Blend" from my B&M were sent up out of Poul Winslow estates accompanied by many cups of hot coffee.
Come to think of it, I think for me personally a pipe actually tastes even better in the cold.

The late fall and winter are my favorite months to smoke. No pollen interference and I cannot take heat and humidity like I used to.

Well the hiatus didn't last long. We've had a spate of 50+ degree days the last couple of weeks and I've been out on the front porch enjoying a couple of bowls each day.
It's not going to last much longer though.

Good to hear you were able to sneak in a couple bowls while the weather wasn't too bad. :puffy:

I'm thinking my off-season is coming too. I've been trying to "discipline" myself (not a good action for something that's supposed to be relaxing) to enjoy winter smokes, but I end up rushing because I want to get back inside. I've come to realize that for me pipe smoking is only as enjoyable as the weather is pleasant (or even just tolerable). And I don't have a garage either.
I have found that if I go for a walk rather than sit, and I going while the sun is out, winter smokes can be enjoyable. But they'll still happen much less frequently than when it's warm out.
Sigh. The struggle is real. But it'll make spring just that much sweeter.

It took a week or two but I'm pretty well adjusted to the freezing temperatures now. It's funny how at first you want to really bundle up at -10C but after a little while you don't even need gloves alymore...

Or at least I don't. It's still the legs that go cold first, but if I keep my legs, head and core warm then the fingers have a little leeway.

Last year I bought a sheepskin hood from these guys and it's super nice, it works well at -30C too. Not too expensive either considering what you get.

In wisconsin, it gets below negative 30 windchill. Here the end of the smoking season is the same day as the end of the world

I thank my lucky stars that I can smoke in the house. Sitting here at my desk, reading about you guys having to go outside.... makes me cold just thinking about it.
