Weird Dunhill Double Date Suffix... Anyone Can Help?

Hallo, I last year i revitalized my passion for pipes and I started to collect and smoke (best part of it) vintage British pipes. Charatan’s, Orlik, GBD, BBB, Masta patent, Parker, etc., an obviously Dunhill. I’ve been reading pages and pages on how to date the different brands, but I recently found an intriguing situation... a Dunhill Root Briar with - apparently - two different date suffix:
- first: a small ”8” after “ENGLAND”; this should mean the pipe is from 1958
- second: slightly on a right-lower end from that, a small underlined “9”.

Yo Dede - Dunhill put the dates on their pipes to help with warranty claims, not to stoke the passions of collectors. The first '8' is the date of manufacture. The '9' was the date it was actually sold.

What I find interesting is the the 8 is not underlined while the 9 is. Does that mean that the pipe went unsold for 11 years? Or am I just not seeing the unlined 8?

Spiffy pipe ; what is the shape nr. ?
It matters when it comes to "dating" the pipe.
