I am allergic to nickel. So when I got my ear pierced in highschool, I had no idea why my body rejected the earrings. I now have bumps inside my ear at both piercing locations. I took the earrings out years ago now.

I also had to buy a special belt, that is nickel free. I used to get the worst rash on my stomach. And let me tell you, scratching that rash, was better than sex. I'd make myself bleed from scratching so much. Haven't had the rash since switching. Ive had this belt-and no rash- for about 8 years now.

And after my wife found out shes allergic to dairy and eggs, It's opened my eyes to food allergies. She now has to make sure if we go out to eat that certain foods dont have dairy. The best response is " I dont think it has dairy?" or "probably not". Like, no you dont get it, my wifes throat will close and she will go into anaflactic shock. So it's a yes or no question.

We even went to a new restaurant that prided themselves on "made from scratch" foods. When we got there, they were unable to accomodate my wife with most of their options. So we learned the hard way that they were actually not made from scratch, or else they would be able to make the food without eggs or dairy.

I get a little itchy in my throat when I eat Reeses peanut butter cups. But I pretend like it doesn't bother me because thats my favorite snack ever. So I don't want to know....

I developed a bee allergy (long and not entertaining story) and need an epipen.

My 4 year old had an egg allergy that has lessened as she gets older. Eggs are in a lot of foods (one of the seven major food allergens) and make for interesting meals at times (for those interested, dump cakes are a great workaround for eggs and I have several recipes).

I worked in the restaurant industry for about 18 years and have seen some bad reactions from cooks being stupid (thank God it wasn't me) and customers not sharing their allergies (like the idiot who was at a table where the other 4 ordered shellfish and the fumes alone caused him to react).

Be safe.

Off added sugar for almost 6 years. If I accidently ingest the dextrose/ maltodextrin they put in prepared meats now, most recently Costco's Carnitas, I will be up for 6 nights straight and have racing nightmares, when I do sleep, beyond belief. Finding the foods that you're sensitive too is a blessing, but takes experimentation and is annoying. Glad the tests worked out.

I have normal/typical pollen allergies and that's it for allergies.

I do have a poultry meat intolerance though (but it's not an allergy). It's basically exactly like lactose intolerance, only it's for poultry proteins rather than milk. Same symptoms and reactions, and mine is pretty bad, even a non-poultry dish made with poultry stock will mess me up.

Eggs are OK, but no meat and nothing from meat/bones. No chicken, turkey, pheasant, duck, goose... etc. This is why we're starting to raise rabbits, as a replacement for chicken and because you just can't get it in the store here and it's way too expensive to order.

Normal seasonal allergies, but every season. Sudafed is my very dear friend. Just wish I didn’t feel like a criminal buying it these days. Went to a Walgreens once and the pharmacist told me “make sure to tell them you have sinus congestion if you get caught with this.” I was pissed. Like, duh dude, I don’t normally sound like Kermit the frog. And eff you for assuming I’m cooking m*th. Wish I was being facetious with this story…

I’m also allergic to fermented berries. Weird. Immediately get the spins. Which are not my idea of a good time. At all.

I saw a program on allergies an while ago.
A British medico with severe Hay fever observed that children in the Amazon had huge worm problems, but no allergies.
He fed himself a teaspoon of worm eggs and his allergies went away.

Again I’m not advocating anyone follow this
Just saying 😁
I've heard the theory that auto-immune diseases are so prevalent now because our immune systems don't have to constantly battle parasites anymore. Might not be true, but it sure seems plausible!

Anyways, I lied earlier in this thread about not having any weird allergies. I just remembered that when I eat chocolate, I often develop cold sweats under my eyes. I'm not sure if it's the cocoa, or some other ingredient doing it. It's never progressed into anything serious, so I've never gotten it checked out...

I raised rabbits for 20 years. I did it because my oldest daughter also had poultry allergies. It’s really easy and tasty. Well… it’s easy if you don’t have snakes, raccoons, or possums to deal with.

A chef I knew would answer those type of questions with probably best to eat at home and know what you put in it.

These days parents are advised to avoid over-cleanliness/reduce the use of detergents and let their kids get dirty, grub in the dirt and have pets.
Less incidence of asthma and allergy-related illnesses

Thank God, I didn't have any allergies to tobacco, but that gives me more questions... there is no genetic difference between burley and Virginias/brightleafs. I wonder if it could be a casing that you may be reacting too. There are several tobacco researchers/writers who have concluded that the differences betwene burleys and brightleafs is microscopic. The sugar is minimal and the acid differences is also, hardly measurable, except on the tongue. The difference is processing, the cure process. Then, before 1860, when flu curing was discovered, you wouldn't have been able to use any tobacco.

It's funny, people who are allergic to strawberries will sometimes crave them so much that they learn to tolerate the anaphylactic reactions. But, I just can't put melons or oranges in my mouth. And, I won't eat any foods with any amount of carrot in it.
Burley has between 12 and several hundred times the amount of nitrates of other tobaccos and reacts to a particular bacteria in the mouth that converts it to nitrous oxide which is heart healthy like red wine. Some people avoid certain red wines because of high nitrate levels. But some people genetically produce more of that bacteria and therefore are more sensitive to it. It produces acidic flavor, tongue bite, sinus irritation, headache, swelling of the mouth areas etc ... So ... I avoid burleys. I do like the nutty flavors just not the effect.
