An X7 solar flare yesterday and an X9 today, pretty much pointed at us, mean that the chance of low latitude auroras (aurorae?) is very possible tomorrow and Saturday nights.

What was the May event? X20? I can't remember. Still, these might have enough grunt in close succession to give us a good show. Fingers crossed for clear skies.

May event was X5. It's not only the strength of the flare but also if a CME is part of it as well. Should have a better idea of the impact later today when NOAA updates it's emerald spiral. Part of the reason why the auroras have been stronger than normal is there is some weakening in the Earth's magnetic field.

There are CMEs and the emerald spiral looks fierce - we'll find out later, Kp Index 7 predicted but I suspect it will be stronger.
