I've had an ongoing string of experiments over the past couple of weeks where I have been casing raw Virginia Flue Cured leaf with different things and have come to the conclusion that all the Virginias I have smoked are cased with honey among other things. Its that sweet and salty taste you get, especially at the bottom of the bowl. Just thought it was interesting :puffy:

Oh yea... You are a graduate of CMT. What do they case Yenidje with??? Oh, and how can I use Dark fired whole leaf? It just burns the crap out of my mouth nose and throat in even the smallest amounts. I'm sorry I ask you Kevin, but I have a half pound of it just sitting here going to waste(the Dark Fired). Is there a way to prepare it like a casing or steaming it? I know that all the Virginia Flue cured I cased tastes wonderful, but is very harsh. Ross O told me to jar it up(the Virginia), Opening it once a month, and the harshness will go away. Any suggestion would be wonderful!!!!

Sure why not? I like Mac Baren vanilla flake, I guess it has some sugar on it? Not to much but it has a light sweetness to it.

My uncle who died years ago was a tobacco farmer. He grew Burley. He made twists cased with Honey. He let it age for a few weeks then chewed it.You could also smoke it in a pipe.As I remember it smoked pretty hot though.

shawn622,
Yep! That is correct. Experimentation is fun and a learning experience. That is how I got started with serious blending. But, it was Craig Tarler's help that actually allowed me to accomplish three "finished" professional blends. These guys have tools that you and I just do not have! Great topic!

Captain, may I call on you for advice? i have bugged the crap out of one very nice blender. Although he has always showed nothing but respect, class and kindness, I need to respect the fact that he is a busy man. I will send you a PM. Very interesting Puffy. My mom has 50 acres she and her husband farm. I am trying to get them to give me 1/4 acre to grow in next season but they say there is a bunch of red tape that goes with tobacco farming. Ohiopuffer, I have mixed it with many things and it just burns me. If you wand a sample to experiment with let me know and I'll ship you some.
