Watch City's Mistletoe Jam is not a straight Virginia (I've read it has approximately 5% perique), but to me it resembles those that are milder and slightly sweet. If you enjoy bready Virginias with a sprinkle of sugar and citrus, you'll enjoy this quality leaf. The perique is condimental at best. My tastebuds are not acute enough to detect it, although there is an extremely subtle presence of raisins (as opposed to pepper or the more savory notes associated with perique forward blends). For those of you are are, like me, sensitive to red Virginias, don't worry. The primary components are the bright and orange varieties.
What intrigues me the most about MJ is its aging potential. It's very good now. I suspect in a few months or longer is will be marvelous. And while the MJ barrel appears to have run out, I've heard Ernie plans on making more. I'd love for this blend to be part of his regular rotation.
