Waterbeds - Who Had One and Who Still Sleeps on One?

Had one for quite some time, my back is paying for it today. Have one of the nicer Sleep Number now which is fantastic.

I had one for years. No baffles. Just a giant sloshy bag of tepid water. It was kinda fun.

I feel like you're trying to hard to sell us on the concept.

I bought one in the 80's primarily as it made perfect ballast for a slight list in the houseboat I was living on in Sausalito. It was fun to sleep on and do other things, too. A heater was necessary, as it was cold on the boat at night.

Had one in HS and college. I'd do it again too as long as it wasn't an old one like I had which sprung random leaks due to material fatigue. By "old" I mean it was only about 10 years old but it was a cheap one to begin with.

The warm bed part was nice as I lived in a really cold climate in a room with no heat.

In college in the 70s and for a couple of years after that. Single seam, not good, always rolling to one side or the other.

That's what I'd worry about. I'd also constantly worry about the darn thing popping and causing flood damage. I think there's a reason they've fallen out of favor haha.

I went out with a few chicks that owned a waterbed in the 70's. They were fun.

Yep, one reason why the houseboat was perfect; if it did burst, the water would end up in the bilge, where it could be easily pumped out.

The wooden frame should have a liner, which holds the water should the mattress spring a leak. No worries about flooding. I had one spring a leak on me, and you just wake up with some wet sheets. You use the hose to drain the frame, and plop in another $20 mattress and fill 'er up... no worries.

I wouldn't be able to get out of one now. But, I did upgrade to one that had ten cylinders that you filled with water instead of just one big bag... waveless. But, even those... I just wouldn't want to mess with it now.

Never had one, but I've been in a few. I did have a couple Lava Lamps though. ?
