Back in the early 80's my wife and I had a waterbed. They were really popular back then. Ours did not have baffles and there was a lot of rolling and bouncing. The nice thing about them was they were heated and crawling into a warm bed in the winter was a plus. They were great if you moved often, garden hose out the window to drain.

Anybody still sleep on a waterbed?

My parents had one for years when I was growing up. It was sloshy and weird, neither of them liked it but they kept it for a long time. My dad built the headboard and the base, it was a neat piece of furniture. I remember being a kid and making waves.

As an adult I've never slept in one, much less seen or known anyone else who owns one. They've become a rarity. Probably because they're weird and not entirely comfortable.

I had one and I quite liked it. The major plus on it was it was nice and warm when I stepped in it. I never got any benefit from sleeping on water and shaping to the body thingy, but you could give me a plank to sleep on and I still will do it. Got it for a few years, then I got a girlfriend and my present wife and it moved for a more adult bed.

We didn't have a headboard, but the bed frame (wooden box) had padded rails for crawling in and out with out getting bruised. Our kids also loved making waves on it.

Hesitate to say much - someone I knew well way, way back had one of the real wavy ones, never got used to it but I was young and flexible and could sleep on anything except a hard floor. Someone I knew well just one night had one of the "waveless" ones - seemed pretty nice but made the choice not to test it further.

We are getting rid of the so-called luxury foam thing we've had for two years - my wife likes it. I thought it was significant that I slept better on all of the various mattresses hotel/B&B/Inn/friends we slept on during a three week vacation last summer. So . . . an innerspring based mattress that matches one we slept on two nights at a friend's house is on the way soon. Dad needs his sleep and his ability to bounce (not struggle) out of bed in the morning with joints ready for all challenges!

I did think back on that "waveless" water bed and almost asked the wife about looking into one but decided talking about water beds and whether I ever slept on any wasn't going to be a conversation worth having, lol.

What's with all of you wanting to sleep on a hot mattress? There's nothing worse than bed sweats.

My parents water bed didn't have a heater, and when the power went out in the winter, which it often did, that thing would be freezing.
