I did notice that the stock prices of pipe tobacco have dipped recently...
Allan are you suggesting that on-shelf tobacco inventories are reverting to pre-Peck levels?

Hans Wiedemann is the European GL Pease. An independent blender (just like mr. Pease) who's blends are manufactured by larger tobacco factories (just like mr. Pease) like Dan Tobacco and Kohlhase & Kopp. Here you can read the first part of a three part interview I did with him.
To the list of blends named above I can only add Janneman Flake, which is one of the best flakes I have ever smoked! Pressed brown and red firecured Virginia, full and soft of taste, are cut into long flakes and together with a pinch of perique, to round off the whole, they provide a fitting tribute to the "pater noster" of the Dutch/Belgian Pipe Smokers Forum: Janneman.
Hans also has a lot of excellent latakia blends like:

- Balkan Passion: The Balkans, a place which recent history has not been kind to, offers majestic landscapes, rich culture and a long tradition of tobacco growing. The famous Oriental Jebel tobaccos come from the Balkans and are usually blended with Latakia, just like “Balkan Passion“. The result is a dry, smoky blend with a good measure of fine oriental layers from Turkey and Greece. Latakia from Cyprus, sweet and spicy Virginia, and a fine touch of Louisiana Perique further enhance the distinct character of “Balkan Passion“. …strong-flavored, smoky, dry.

- Olaf's Favourite English: In addition to a sweet Virginia basis, Olaf‘s Favourite English contains 50 percent Cyprian Latakia, Perique as well as a good bit of Smyrna Oriental, Darkfired Leaf and English Black Cavendish. A blend in the spirit of traditional tobacco making, its individual components matched delicately and with love. I did a review of this blend here.

- Brullende Leeuw: The exquisite balance of this exotic mixture stands for the unity between the Dutch and Flemish Pipe Smokers Forum members. That together many pipes may be smoked! The blend is beautifully balanced with light and red Virginias, latakia, oriental tobaccos, some Black Cavendish and a pinch of perique.

HU Tobaccos are some of the finest blends available, imo. A bit pricey, but well worth it. Top shelf, all the way. :puffy:

I smoked both Edward G and Directors Cut for the first time last night, both from brand new pipes. What an experience! They are everything the reviews promise and more and go straight into my rotation. I confess I've never really thought much about VaPers before but these were wonderful. The full dark fruit nose and taste on the Edward G were a revelation and I've never known an actual tin note to correspond exactly with the reviewers thoughts in the way the Directors Cut did when I opened it. I've never smelled freshly mown grass in a tin before, mixed in with fruit, but that's precisely what you get. The EG was fruit and spice all the way down and no relights. The DC was a tiny bit damp and took a bit of work to keep alight at first, but it was worth it! Oh my Lord the sweetness as you move through the bowl, with spice and sour diving in depending on what elements are where in the bowl. The blends themselves are interesting, with the different cuts in there, including coins, which made it fun to mix them up to make sure there is an even spread of taste and texture through the bowl. Blown away. Many thanks for the heads-up Jake.

Sounds like some tasty stuff guys.
And by the way, I have not bought any pipe tobacco since early January. Pretty impressive willpower I have, eh? Damn proud of myself.
peck, why do you insist on being in a state of denial. Ordering only a couple hundred tins since January is not quitting to buy. You may not be ordering your normal 400 tins a month, but you are still buying and none of us believe you could ever stop.

UPDATE - During and since my 'sabbatical' I have sampled more than 15 of Hans' blends. As a 'spread' they are truly remarkable and several IMO are world-class/world-beating in their class.
I have no pecuniary interest in HU-Tobacco, nor any other conflict of interest.
Hans has done me what I consider the great honour of asking me to 'test-drive' his next blend. Indeed he trusts me (and the blend!) sufficiently to permit me to review it and post the review pre-release/launch.
For the interest of members the new blend will be called *Fayyum Krumble Kake" which Hans says is "Like Penzance". I'm very much looking forward to tasting it; I should have a sample in the next few days.

peck, I think we need to do a lie detector test on you as I cannot believe you could show that much restraint, it just ain't in you kid. lol
flakey, pulllllleaasssee. We all know you are a 50% owner of the company and you are just shilling so you can increase sales. I heard it from a relable source that this was the reason for your sabbatical, as you were busy setting this company up. I think it is a great idea and I wish you all the best in your new venture. Now if you would like for me not to publish the ownership documents, I will take a pound of each to insure my silence. :nana:

Harris, I will send you some, but only on condition that you promise (on your tobacco warehouse) that you will not hoard it and that you extract from your partner in same crime an identical legally-binding affidavit!! :nana:
