I have found that I really like crunchy dry tobaccos

I like to dry out most of my tobaccos except for a few like Condor and St. Bruno and most plugs, I think they smoke better the way they come. I just accidentally left some GH&Co No. 7 Broken Flake dry over night and I was dissapointed in the morning when I realized I had left it out. This stuff was crunchy man, I considered just tossing it but decided to load it up as is and give it a go. Man I have never tasted this blend like this before! I was getting some amazing flavors of the leaf mixed in with the slight Lakeland topping and it was just singing, I got these great sour notes like I get from Best Brown 2, it was like I was experiencing a whole new blend! Anyway, I'm going to experiment with drying out my GH&Co blends to see how they fair when their crunchy. I want to see if this will bring out more flavor in Stonehenge Flake as it tastes really bland to me as is.

Hawky, I'm having a similar experience with the Irish Flake.
Gonna go crispy with some others, for science! :puffy:

That's why some of us have been saying to dry, dry, dry! Esp. flakes and plugs which may feel dry on the outside, but still hold considerable moisture.

In addition to drying I've had best results with rubbing the flake out, it helps (at least me) to achieve a consistent pack. Folding has too many variables with different sized flakes, different sized pipes--rubbing them out removes all of that.

The best analogy I can think of would be a drink with ice in it. As the ice melts, adding water to the drink, it dilutes the flavor. As water evaporates from tobacco, the flavor condenses.
