Last week someone was asking about good flake tobaccos to try. I suggested Watch City because they have a lot of flake/cake blends that ive really liked over the years.
After posting the suggestion, I realized I didn't have a single leaf of WCC blends!
So I immediately went to WCC website to stock up on a couple of my favorites. While perusing the selections, I realized I had no idea which of the 6,000 flakes were my favorites.
Now here comes the money wasting. :)
Because I always thought of keeping track of tobaccos by keeping notes was a bit much, I was FORCED to randomly pick a few that sounded good. I got 2oz of each to try. I'll buy larger amounts if I like them. Of course, then I'll need to buy a few more to try. :(
I wasn't sure where to put this post. It would have fit good in the "First World Problems" thread from awhile ago. But decided to just waste your time with a whole new thread. :)

Just mylar or jar them up if you don't like them. Worst case it can be used for a future trade/sale/smoke if your taste buds change.

I don't really consider buying any pipe tobacco a waste. Except aromatics, those are always a waste. (Just kidding!)
They are already jarred.
I'm going to just smoke through these to see what's what. If I can't live without it, I'll buy more for the cellar.
I'm pretty sure I'll like them all, unless they really screwed something up.
In nearly 3 decades of piping, there is ONE blend I can say I don't like........C&D Bayou Morning.
No idea why, I like C&D Va, Burley and Perique. There is something in this blend I don't like at all.
I sat on a pound for years, but gave most of it away last year. I'm pretty sure it was from 2019.

Funny how that can happen, isn't it? You can have two blends that, on paper, look like they should taste pretty similar yet in reality taste worlds apart. There are so many tiny nuances that make such a huge difference. Not just in ingredients but even other subjective factors. I've had what's basically an "ultimate smoke" with a certain blend and then smoked the same blend the next day and found nothing appealing in it, whatsoever.

The Bayou Morning burns my sinuses and nose like horseradish. Which makes it taste awful. Dozens of blends with the same tobaccos from the same company are great, with no burning.

After “wasting” all kinds of cash a few months ago with panic buying and pillaging the TP and CoJ sites as they were winding down, I haven’t bought anything for two months. I’m getting the urge to waste some more. May have to check out WCC and see if anything looks good. 😁
Waste some $ on that new F Sequence blend. It’s superb.

If I'm not mistaken, bayou morning is extremely heavy on perique. That could be the issue!

It's much more heavy on the perique than most blends. C&d have a few blends that they just LOAD with perique. Not for everyone, but I sure love their Bayou line!

I smoke plenty of Perique heavy blends. I'm currently going through a tin of The Beast, love Telegraph Hill and Haunted Bookshop, Exclusive....Acadian Perique.
At first I thought it was only the Perique. But at only 25% Perique, there is more to my dislike than that. I have smoked their granulated Perique straight and Green River Perique.....there is some way the tobaccos in Bayou Morning react to me. Very odd chemical reaction I'd suppose. Same as some pipers get tongue bite, and others don't.
I don't feel tongue bite, infact MacBaren VA#1 is one of my all time favorites. It's probably the #1 tongue scorcher in the tobacco world. :)
