When I open a tin of tobacco, I transfer it to a mason jar until I’m done. As jars empty, do you gentlemen wash and sanitize the jars between tobaccos or just load the next tin in? And let’s say they are different tobaccos. Thanks.
Tom
When you open a new mason ordered online (and likely made abroad) just smell the inside. The air is usually foul smelling. Filling it with tap water and emptying it and then rinsing the lid, and importantly letting them air dry before jarring the tobacco is usually my initial protocol. When I reuse the jar (usually by filling it with the same blend) I do rinse it again and let it air dry.

Well, you certainly don’t want to do it while the tobacco is still in it, so between tobaccos is probably your best bet.

Dishwasher and easy to make sure they are dry. Don't know anything about the science, but with something organic already in there for whatever time period, I'd rather a new batch started with a clean environment.

I just wipe out. I also have to hide my empties due to the sister hijacking them for jams/jellies/preserves.
Funny you mention this as my wife always complains about all her small canning jars disappearing from the pantry.

LOL,,, big difference between jams and ‘baccy!!
Unless, of course -- like me -- baccy is your jam. ;)

I clean new jars and between different blends, especially if there is residual odor, otherwise I don't bother if it's the same blend in an already used jar.

I spritz Clorox bleach in the jar and toss it in the dishwasher. Hand wash the lids with dish soap. Put the used lid away, grab a new one and also spray that with the bleach and rinse then dry with a paper towel.

The jars, once done in the dishwasher, I dry them off and shake them to get the little bits of water out, then put back on the rack to air dry.

I rotate the lids to allow the seal to reset. They also don’t last forever, and this allows me to inspect them before re-use.

I figure the dishwasher sanitizes the glass already, the Clorox just helps with removing the previous tobacco’s stench imo.
