Wally Frank is Actually Rube Goldberg

Here’s another Wally Frank with a solution to the simple wind cap.

This one is briar. The cap unscrews. You load and light and then screw the cap back on. The breather holes run down the front of the bowl (pipe cleaner inserted for visual awesomeness)

The last picture is both of Rube Goldberg’s greatest accomplishments.

Both pipes smoke great. So, weird or not, they work.

Back then tobacco pipes were a high volume industry, so innovations were important to elbow into the market, offer something no one else had. That's when patents were big and stingers came in all configurations and sizes, moisture traps, carburetors, and such. Those are great examples.

Actually the one with the rotating bowl is easier after a small learning curve on lighting. Just a quick rotation and you’re off to the races. I have smoked about 15 bowls in it and have yet to relight it any after the first two “trial” bowls

I picked it up from a vendor in Europe, I don’t remember which one; however, their are two for sale on eBay and the price is what I paid. Search Rattray’s Pipe Knife. Mine is the briar one. The other is Bog Oak.

They might have. The nomenclature is very clean and it only says “Wally Frank”, “Patent Pend” and “Made in Italy”.

I was really hoping for a cool name.

Pipedia has the most space and photos on Wally Frank that I've ever seen. Frank was one of the biggest, if not the biggest, pipe sellers in the US. He had 40 different pipe lines, and the pipes representing them look appealing. Why don't we see more of his pipes bought and sold on the forum?

Those look really interesting. I love odd things like that.

The knife is cool too. I was thinking about getting one a bit ago but the price put me off. They're good value in your opinion though?
