Wagner Pipes - Any Information On The Origin Of This Pipe

I picked up this Wagner pipe that was mislabeled as a Weber. It is very light with great Birdseye on the left flank and a soso mix of grain on the right. No pits or fills. The right side is stamped "Imported Briar" and under the shank is the number 50. The photo does not show the Birdseye well at all....

Not very profound, but I think the "imported Briar" stamp was used mostly on U.S. pipes to emphasize after World War II that the pipe maker had resumed using briar after the shortages during the war. I haven't seen that on pipes made outside the U.S. So, U.S. made probably.

The number 50 under the shank reminds me of Bertram pipes but this pipe is far lighter than any Bertrams I own or have seen.

Sable, it is interesting that SmokingPipes has it categorized as a French pipe. And to make things more confusing, the W stamp on the stem is the same as Weber's earliest stamp. It looks to be original to the pipe based on the odd shape and large diameter in the shank and tenon. Whatever it is, it smokes a charm.

Also, the Tobacco Leaf from 1904 has reference to Weber-Wagner clay pipes.
