Sometimes I read through a thread, and I'm like, "hmmm, maybe I can help..." Then I skip a few posts and am like, "I thought this was about a heavy pipe? Where did the softcore come from?" I'm not complaining. It's always nice to see pictures of women, but I missed the jump from heavy pipes, to photoshop, to pictures of chicks.
But, I used to think that 2oz was my max for clenching. Then I got some larger pipes, like my Ardor Giant bent bulldog. And, I just wanted to smoke that one so much that I ended up clenching it. Now, I am clenching in the 3-4oz range. But, not every 4oz pipe has the same balance. Sometimes if the "hang" is right, the weight pulls down, and not at a fulcrum. I would be hesitant about clenching a 4oz straight pipe that extends out 6+ inches. That would be like trying to keep a crowbar level. So now, I take into consideration weight, the bend, and the length. It helps to have the pipe in hand to survey it, but sometimes I have to use my imagination when looking at a pipe that really appeals to me online.
I remember clenching seemed really odd to me in the beginning. But, with time, it just becomes like second nature.
