Also, pardon my ignorance, but I was curious : are vulcanite stems always black, or can they be other colors too? Like can they resemble acrylic stems?

Many different colors available. Most common is one referred to as Cumberland but many colors with similar pattern to Cumberland and there are even solid colors with no pattern. Vulcanite is the same as Ebonite.

Ebonite is a brand name for a material generically known as hard rubber or vulcanite, obtained via vulcanizing natural rubber for prolonged periods. Ebonite may contain from 25% to 80% sulfur and linseed oil. Its name comes from its intended use as an artificial substitute for ebony wood.
