colcolt, your Ferndown is vulcanite. It is the high quality German kind which hardly ever oxidizes. I use the Obidisian on my Ferndowns just to keep them conditioned.

I thought it was. That one and the Nording and Peterson 307 are the only other ones, maybe the Dunhill and I'll research that. The Winslow has an acrylic stem.

Harris, just a thought, I bought a shoe buffer, 2 heads , one black, one red, chrome body I believe the brand is old dremel, really handy for polishing without going to the extreme, picked it up go 50$ on e-bay, for my vulcanite stems I do this, buy a cheap chap stick with sayilic acid in it, read the ingredients has to be this, after smokeing coat the end with Chapstick, leave it for a little while, then wipe with paper towel, stems will gleam, works for me. The old cajun

colcolt, your Dunhill is vulcanite.
edit: I found plenty on Ebay for around 50.00. I am thinking I might have to grab one.
