Landed in Dublin today. Exhausted but excited. My Girlfriend will join me on Sunday. We are in Ireland for about 10 days. We both have roots and family in this country and are going to do some visiting and exploring, she is much more connected to her roots that I am, the biggest draw for me was Peterson!!!
I had wanted to wait till I had overcome the jetlag and gotten some rest before heading into the Peterson shop, so I could enjoy the experience more, but I found my self control was lacking... I made a beeline straight from the hotel (bypassing every major tourist attraction along the way!) I was not disappointed. This was the first time I had ever been there and it was a staisfying experience. The selection of pipes was really great and the gentlemen working the shop were friendly and welcoming. I had ordered a set of Meerschaum pipes before arriving and they were there and in good shape. I also have a couple of shapes that I have been coveting for a while and I will hunt for good examples of each while I have this opportunity. I am going to wait till the end of my trip to make any purchases so that I don't succumb to impulse too much. It would be very easy to get silly in the shop! A load of really beautiful pipes are on offer.
At the suggestion of some members here I have scheduled a tour of the factory as well. I am really excited about everything!!! I'll let everyone know how it goes. I don't have a proper camera with me (the GF is bringing one) but I will try to post some pics.
Transitioning from smoking occasional bowls without much attention to all that pipes have to offer, to taking an approach that is more serious about pipes and pipe smoking is REALLY bringing me a lot of joy. This forum and its contributers are certainly major factors in that enjoyment. It is great to have somewhere friendly to learn more and share pipes and pipesmoking with others. Cheers to all!
