I'm sitting here smoking one of the Sutliff virginia only yes somewhat enjoying it as a divergence, thinking I'll miss it as I only have one tin left of it. But- in the 40 + years I have been smoking virginia "blends and straightforward iterations of virginia, what have I truly enjoyed through out this- journey? And, which, would be the best darn virginia that I could smoke ever how long I have remaining?
And, what of all of those were truly just virginia tobaccos? and what, if I could dream would be sweet bright only virginia? I don't think any have been that! Maybe along the lines of Capstan (yellow), but even that is flavoured - and the modern (MB) version, imo, too darn much. Can there be that just virginia blend that is naturally sweet? Many ago.... well, Hall o' the Wynd that was produced by McConnell seemed to be just virginias - but maybe I'm wrong, and certainly the Kopp version isn't (I have not cared for perique for a long time, tho' a TINY bit des lend a flavour, but there are other condiments that I prefer). I very much enjoyed McClelland's !virinia blends, and hovered foryears on 2010- to excess, Mike will tell you! Help me out!

This old laptop is - please forgive the screwey typing.
I'm now trying many of the C&D virginia blends, but tend to stay away from those with perique, and don't really care that much for dark fired either. Maybe I'm looking for virginia with a condiment like an unflavoured cavendish, or maybe a slight flavoured plum or similar or????? as I mentioned above HotW, and what really got me years ago was the Dunhill Light Flake (rectangular tins) was so darn good - which led me to McClelland 2010....

Please enlighten me: Windsail? Three Sails?
Daughters and Ryan is the blending house, Windsail and Three Sails are the blends. D&R blends are very plain and without toppings or casings., just straight tobacco. Burn real easy. At first they seem dry but don't be fooled. Might be worth a shot for you. Check out the reviews for those blends on TobaccoReviews.com. I believe Pipes and Cigars carries them.

It's been awhile since I had Three Sails, it's a shag cut and very light in color. I remember it tasting soft and sweet, but I can't remember past that. Windsail is lovely, tangy sweet and simple. Not complex. Stuff it and burn, simple and easy.

If you ever get lucky enough to stumble across some Gatsby Luxury Flake by Drew Estate, there's your winner right there. Of course, I've hoarded most of those, so you may have to either bribe me or hire a hit man, whichever is cheaper. 😁

@gnarlybriar maybe give GL Pease's Union Square a try? Blended by C&D.

I am currently smoking Union Square - which is enjoyable! I will continue to smoke it. BUT, it's not the bright, naturally sweet (not over sweetened) tobacco I'm looking for.

THANKS! I have in the past smoked Orlik GS. And, that, and Capstan (Yellow) are "the look" I'm after, but just too darn sweetened. I'll pursue the others thank you!

I have enjoyed buying various whole leaf virginias, and pressing plugs of them blended. Cut that flake when it has sat for a month (or longer) and smoke the sweet natural flavour of virginia with nothing more than a a bit of steam from the kettle to get the leaf softer when pressing. Sometimes I use a bit of dark rum too. They really are sweet by nature.

1931 is a burley blend, but i'll second Hamborger Veermaster. Good straight VA. 👍
goodness gracious you are right! 1931 is a VaBurCav... damn good flake though! :) I enjoyed it as a little 'fuller' OGS. The 1931, Hamborger, and Ampersand all have a slight touch of sweetness to them, imho..which i like. Not too sweet in my book.

Ah of course, no it's not on the brighter side. Sorry, you did mention that but I got myself fixated on it being un-topped, minimally cased etc. As mortonbriar said, maybe whole leaf could be the answer?
