For a minute I thought that we were going to be informed that Virginia tobacco comes from China

Haha, China, yeah I was always under the assumption that Virginia tobacco was more or less just a type of tobacco, I figured there was no way it all could have been grown in virginia.

To date, no one is admitting the import of tobacco from China, but who doubts it?

Wikipedia has a couple of articles on China and tobacco.

It reports: "...China is the world's largest consumer and producer of tobacco:
  • there are 350 million Chinese smokers, and

China produces 42% of the world's cigarettes.

The China National Tobacco Corporation ... is by sales the largest single manufacturer of tobacco products in the world..."

I read somewhere, possibly Russ Ouellette, that they produce enormous quantities of leaf, they just don't export very much, yet .

SO with china having 350,000,000 smokers and the U.S. having a population of 311,800,000 that means china has more smokers than we have people so even though they produce 42% of the worlds cigs I could see how there wouldnt be too many left to export.
