Virginia Free Blends

After sampling a smattering of all different brands and styles of tobacco, I am sad to report that any Virginia, by any maker in any form, just doesnt agree with me. I would like to know if anyone out there has a recommendation for a Virginia free smoke. I have been staying with aromatics as they are nice and mild, but I find that I like the flavor of Latakia a lot. Maybe a latakia heavy blend with no Virginia is what Im looking for. I have a tin of C&Ds Mississippi Mud that I am looking forward to trying, and I am a huge fan of Boswells Northwoods. If anyone at all has any recommendations I would greatly appreciate it!

Wow... no VA's? I have no idea what DOESN'T have them. Virginia and Burley leaf are pretty much the base for all pipe blends. Have you tried red virginias? Those are quite different from the norm. Otherwise, the only thing I can think of would be an all lat and oriental blend. Or maybe something with just a burley base. But that will tend to bite alot since the VA's and Burleys balance each other out.

Mississippi Mud, according to the tin, contains no Virginia. I have also come across some other C&D bulk blends that, according to the description, are Virginia free. I tend to do good with Burley and like the flavor of it, but prefer the flavor of Latakia over Burley. That being said, I have been enjoying MacBarens Symphony quite a bit. It has Virginia, but I think the content is so minute that I dont notice it.

matchstickman, I've had the C&D blends that Kevin mentioned. Excellent. I also am finishing a tin of Mississippi Mud. Very, very good. As dark a blend as you'll ever see and very enjoyable.

I still have problems with many Va's. Brights mainly. Issues with cotton-mouth and occasional tongue bite.

Never had any issues at all with Va's from G&H though.

Still not a VA fan myself! I do smoke some but straight VA blends are not for me!
I say open that Mississippi Mud up and dig in! You will enjoy it!

@Bubba: I have a tin of McClellands Navy Cavendish that is a mixed bag for me. Its a straight VA and the rum casing tastes very nice on the initial light, but about halfway through it just starts doing some weird s#^! to my taste buds. I'll have to pop that tin of Mississippi Mud in the next couple of days and post a review.

my fav toby right now is DH Flake... aka VA flake. i love VA's do you just not like the flavor or what? just curious.

I am starting to think that it is a chemistry thing. Some people just have a natural aversion to Burley. Cyndi has said that Latakia is a migraine trigger for her. Im starting to think that there is something about my body that is just averse to Viriginia. The second the first puff of smoke hits my mouth it feels like someone is sharpening a razor on my tongue. It could just be a certain brand of Virginia, it could be that Im not smoking the right kind of Virginia, or some other unknown factor. At this point, its anybodys guess.

A burley heavy blend with cigar leaf? Count me in! Thank you so much for the recommendation. These tobaccos sound great and I am definitely going to have to give them a try!

I'm pretty sure Carter Hall is a straight burley. I don't think theres any Virginia there.

I also have a big problem with many Virginia based blends. If you haven't tried the Middle Earth blends from Just For Him ( especially Shortcut to Mushrooms ) you should give them a try.... ::

Essence of Vermont from 4noggins gets rave reviews. It's supposedly super Burley and the Perique takes a back seat in the mix. The maple flavor is just a hint for sweetness, or so I heard.
