I use them for the top of bowl for char lights, really helps.

I do one of two things that have already been mentioned here. I'll toss it into a 'mixed bag' combination of tobaccos like mso489 mentioned or I'll use it to top off a bowl for a more even charring light. If I recall, I started that practice after having heard Brian mention it on the radio show a few years back.

So...apparently I am the only one that takes it outside during a storm, throws it up in the air and yells "I do, I do, I do believe in pipe fairies! I do! I do!! I do believe in pipe fairies! I do! I do!!" and then waits for his new pipe to arrive? huh.
