Can anyone tell me if the 7oz tube/container is ok for long term storage? They appear to be made from hard cardboard with thin foil on the top and bottom of canister...

They should be good over time. They will bulge but should hold up

Before you open it, it is somewhat sealed. Once you open it, it might stay fresh enough if you smoke it regularly; otherwise, jar it. Most of these old time blends have some preservatives in them, propylene glycol or whatever. Velvet is a standard blend that's been around forever, but I find it may take a pinch or jolt of something a little stronger to make it full-flavored.
