I have never smoked a filter in a filter pipe, I have never used an adaptor either. Not sure if anyon else is like that? :puffy:

You didn't find you had extra condensation in the empty filter chamber Pipeherman?

bigdude, I think other members have pretty well covered the 9 mm filter subject. You can get the adaptor or

you can try smoking the pipe without filter or adaptor. I like a little resistance to draw against, but you can

adapt by puffing lightly. My favorite pipes are nonfilter. I've just ordered permanent stems to retrofit my

MM cobs as nonfilter pipes; can't wait for those.

I have not personally smoked a Vauen yet, but I do have a friend that I smoke with regularly that owns one (an Ascot I believe) and he loves it. He smokes it without a filter or adapter and always raves about what a great pipe it is.

@auslander I had a quick look for a website. I found something from a few years ago. When I get a few minutes spare I shall have anotherlook. Is there anything in particular that you like about Design Berlin?

Yes Bigdood, I've been trawling through the shops looking at every make and model that I could find. In the price range that Vauen and Design Berlin sit in I was partial to the designs, grains and finishes of Design Berlin.
As for smoking quality of either of the two brands I haven't any experience and also, as stated, I have an slightly irrational bias against Vauen due to their market dominance. I asked if you had seen the Design Berlin models merely out of curiosity and am not trying to persuade you either way on what you buy. In reality the Vauen pipes look good.
I did buy a Passatore pipe for my first purchase and can say that it is a great pipe at a decent price, smokes well and is comfortable. It is Italian and not German though (not sure if you are set on buying a German pipe).

Auslander, you piqued my curiosity about Design Berlin and as I am on the hunt for a new pipe. I aren't discounting any manufacturers. I am q great believer in listening to other people's opinions. Helps me form the best and most rounded decisions.

@auslander I'd like to thank you for pointing me in the direction of Design Berlin. I've got an appreciation for pipes with little affectations and this pipe seems right up my my alley. I like the double brass detailing on the rim. The price seems to be highly competitive as well.
