Vauen Filters in Petersons. Modding ideas?

IMO Vauen makes the best charcoal 9mm filter. Their filters however do not fit snugly in Peterson pipes.

Is there a way to modify the filter or pipe to make it fit into a Peterson stem? Currently, a Peterson pipe with a Vauen filter allows the filter to blow fore and aft in the shank of the pipe.

I would assume wrapping some tape around the filter would do the trick. I’m not sure how safe that is health-wise though.

How loose is the fit? Maybe a small O-ring could help it lodge in place.

I have noticed the same with Peterson filters in Petes and in the Vauen. I also noticed it with Vauen filters in the vauen. I just assumed that was normal. Savinelli 6mm filters are tight in Savs though.

I cut strips from toiletpaper and wrap it round the filter for a better fit - works great

That looseness may be by design ... they swell as they absorb moisture and then can get stuck if you don't change them out.

Vauen filters in a Vauen have a small detent that locks them in position and doesn’t allow smoke to bypass the filter. It is a superior design IMO.

A good point, but it is allowing smoke to bypass the filter as it doesn’t seal the stem like a Vauen pipe does.

I prefer the Peterson filters; the vauen Dr. Perl filters have a slight chemical taste to them ... to me...I realize no one else experiences this taste. (???)

Hillcrest, from a psych viewpoint, there is nothing unusual about that. You may be way out on the edge of the distribution of people who have a super ability to sense (detect weak signals) and perceive a taste.

Yes, it runs in the family. Had an uncle shopping for a house once, when viewing the house he asked about the gas leak and was told it was over 15 yrs ago. Heightened taste and smell, even as a smoker. I don't think its psych though ... more biology.

Very cool! Agree, it is a biological ability to sense, and a cognitive ability to attach meaning or interpretation to the sensed stimulus, i.e. perception.

For nuances in taste and aroma, you are truly in the right place here in the land of pipe tobacco!
