VAPer's for a newbie

Trying to figure out something other than aros to smoke. Right now not a real fan of the Latvia smells but would like to try this for now.
would be about 3 or 4 good ones to try that are not over powering.

Parkers got a good idea there. Its very light in Perique, but it smokes very well.
I would also throw out PS Luxury Navy Flake for some citrus, Escudo for some sweet hay and pepper, and Prairie Wind for a sweet, cool burning VaPer.
I'm a big fan of Louisiana Red myself.
For something a little different I'd also look at PS Luxury Bullseye Flake and Rattray's Marlin Flake. Both are VaPers with cavandish in them but they are light years apart.

I'd second LBF, it has just enough perique to notice it and not enough to overpower you. Plus it has a bit of sweetness if you're used to aro's.

Rattray's Marlin Flake: sweet Virginias and the plummy side of Perique.
Stokkebye Luxury Bullseye Flake: for a great introduction to VaPer hybrids.
Robert McConnell Scottish Cake: great intro to what Kentucky can add to a VaPer. Perfectly balanced constituent tobaccos.
Escudo: perfect balance. Not too strong. Just strong enough. Gorgeous Virginias, just the right amount of Perique. The gold standard.
Round Two:
GL Pease Haddo's Delight: the next level of VaPer hybrid. Some would say the Holy Grail.
GL Pease Cumberland: like Scottish Cake but kicked up a few notches.
McClelland St James Woods: VaPer meets McClelland signature Virginia tang.
GL Pease Fillmore: Delicious, creamy, Perique-forward broken flake.
Hearth & Home Anniversary Kake: plummy, stewed-fruit Perique with tangy Virginias. Needs a bit of age to reach full glory. Some members here stock it. Some members here hoard it
Round Three:
GL Pease Cairo: Perique, meet Orientals.
Frog Morton on the Bayou: Perique, meet English
310* Battleground: Perique, meet aromatic
Mac Baren HH Acadian Perique: hybrid deliciousness
Peterson Irish Oak: hybrid deliciousness
Round Four:
Seattle Pipe Club Plum Pudding: Perique, meet English kitchen sink.
Pipeworks & Wilke No.13: Perique, meet American-English
GL Pease Barbary Coast: Perique, meet cubed cut burley.

I would say it depends on what kind of VAs you generally like. Do you like grassier / lemony VAs, or the deeper red VA flavors?

Yeah.
Perique just made a shopping list for me.
Cept for the Fillmore. I just can't get that to work for me. It starts out fine but ends up muddy. (Like Kajun Kake) After the third time I just tossed it back in the jar and plan on waiting a year or so.

It has a subtle orange and coco scent.

Agreed. Fillmore is amazing in time. I've got a tin from 2006 that I can't wait to open, but I find that it smokes pretty well after maybe 6 months or so of melding in the tin.

I have tried GLP Haddo Delight and did not like it. I would give a big bid for Escudo or McClelland's St. James Woods even though it does not have a high degree of perique.

Was on the same path as you recently Muddy. I had several good suggestions from those here on the forum, and so far from what I've purchased I have to say I absolutely love Stokkebye's Luxury Bullseye Flake and Orlik Golden Slice. For me personally, a full bowl of Orlik can almost be too much at times...I don't think it's the perique so much as just the flavor as it grows through the bowl. But, with LBF I don't have that problem. I grab up two to three coins, fold, give em a good crink to loosen em up, stuff and away I go.

I don't care for them but of all I like OGS. I remember someone here that knew a lot & he stated that OGS was great for beginners to vapers & he was right. (Just my opinion & not a VA fan.)
