If you don't like it, send it this way! I want to give it a go. Keep putting other tobaccos before hand, but I want pure perique to give a go. Thinking McConell's Pure Perique is going to be in my next order....whenever that is. I want the full mouth full of peppercorns effect I have heard about. This week I go down the path many have gone. Death Meatal has enticed me to Soak Perique in Rum, By this Friday I'll let you guys know what happens. Calling this the Rum/Per. Yea I said it, Rumper..
I don't think it's as bad as people say, having smoked both pure Perique and "rumper," but it is a strong flavor without much variation. To me, it feels like someone cut open a fig, salted it and peppered it, then dried it and set it ablaze. It's as much fruity as peppery. The rum brings out the sweetness while decreasing the fruity, and changes the peppery into more of a sweet-sour flavor.I want the full mouth full of peppercorns effect I have heard about.
I've smelled something like it. Kind of like the fertilizer scents of some GH blends. Then again, chocolate covered manure is a delicacy around here.Does anybody else get that Manure covered Chocolate aroma from straight perique or is it just me?
That's two respected (by me) people voting for this Sutliff Golden Age, which has conveniently gone out of print. Alas. Maybe it will be reborn with new branding, including a better name. Tobacco of Pericles?Compared to Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture, it stomped it even with it's weird smell.
I agree with all of your comments. The rum helps. I dicked around with adding small amounts of Burley and that also helped, avoiding the sickly sweet flavor of many Va/Pers.very one-dimensional
