This week I go down the path many have gone. Death Meatal has enticed me to Soak Perique in Rum, By this Friday I'll let you guys know what happens. Calling this the Rum/Per. Yea I said it, Rumper..
If you don't like it, send it this way! I want to give it a go. Keep putting other tobaccos before hand, but I want pure perique to give a go. Thinking McConell's Pure Perique is going to be in my next order....whenever that is. I want the full mouth full of peppercorns effect I have heard about.

I just got that C&D Granulatd Perique in the mail. Can you say Chocolate covered Manure. Doing a couple different versions of the Rumper. Starting with Appletons Jamaicin Rum on cotton balls. Next I'm going Meyers Dark Rum. This will be a partial soak. I think. Tyler don't go with McConells it's not pure perique. It's a blend.

I don't think it's as bad as people say, having smoked both pure Perique and "rumper," but it is a strong flavor without much variation. To me, it feels like someone cut open a fig, salted it and peppered it, then dried it and set it ablaze. It's as much fruity as peppery. The rum brings out the sweetness while decreasing the fruity, and changes the peppery into more of a sweet-sour flavor.

I just spiced some Briar Fox with this perique, I'd eye ball it and say 20% mix. I'm letting it sit for a bit in a jar. I think Latakia and Perique goes well together. Going to try some In C&D's Star of the East.
Coining brand names. Foxes Beast and Star of the Beast. Does anybody else get that Manure covered Chocolate aroma from straight perique or is it just me?

I've smelled something like it. Kind of like the fertilizer scents of some GH blends. Then again, chocolate covered manure is a delicacy around here.

Sutlif Private Stock Golden age was a great shag Vaper that is impossible to find and I believe it is no longer produced.

People who get wide eyed when you say that you smoke pure perique are people who have never really tried it, or else they let their imagination run over their taste buds, because pure perique is not that big a deal. A tiny tad stronger than Haddos Delight, but very one-dimensional. That is all. It's more like a a cigarette-y flavor than anything else.
And, if you hallucinate or talk with spirit guides, send me some of whatever you had. I've never had an experience like that in my life.

Compared to Dunhill Elizabethan Mixture, it stomped it even with it's weird smell.
That's two respected (by me) people voting for this Sutliff Golden Age, which has conveniently gone out of print. Alas. Maybe it will be reborn with new branding, including a better name. Tobacco of Pericles?
very one-dimensional
I agree with all of your comments. The rum helps. I dicked around with adding small amounts of Burley and that also helped, avoiding the sickly sweet flavor of many Va/Pers.
Long live the Rum/Per!

In Stock here.
If someone buys it all up. I would appreciate working out something to get a tin or two as at the moment I can't spend any more for a while.

Rimboche and Deception Pass are new for me. I love Va/Pers and these two are tops.
And this thread has given me some new tobaccos to purchase.
You guys are killing me!

Briar Fox with 25% plus perique added. Yea Those out there that say I love perique blends. Yea I'm sure you do, but what you really like is What the blender did with those ingredients. Perique when fresh is figgy, raisins, and hints of incense. I've got the rumper soaking. I don't know if it's worth it though. Smells like strong kick Ass cocoa cola syrup. I've got a New Huck Finn for these experiments. I hope the ghost comes out. Either that or my pipe will give my favorite burley blends a perique tone. That's my thoughts.

Daughter & Ryan Rimboche AB has a touch of latakia.

Pipes & Cigars MATCH Elizabethan to me it taste better than Dunhill's blend.

Cornell & Diehl Exclusive this has a high percentage of perique.

All of these are good and underrated to my taste anyway.

I tried Esoterica's Dunbar and wish I could recommend it because I love Esoterica blends. However, for me, I found it extremely bitter and didn't enjoy it at all, both new and three year old. For the most part I think I'll stick with Escudo and OGS. There's a reason some of these are off the beaten path. I love the taste of Haddo's but it gives me the spins even in small doses.
