March 5th,2010. The tax on a pack of cigarettes would increase by about $1 under a bill approved by the Utah Senate. The domino effect has begun.

Washington state legislation is still in session, but we are expecting another $1 in taxes added onto tobacco purchases as well. If this one goes through, total tax on a pack of cigs would be $4.05! Ooof

Of course, they are also trying to raise sales tax on soda, candy and bottled water. Good grief

I thought they were getting high here at $5.00 a pack. Holy shit. Taxation to help you improve yourself in their eyes. Time to start growing your own.

BINGO ! sapo! I am doing JUST that. So far it isn't all that hard. If you can grow tomatoes you should be able to grow tobacco.

how hard is it to grow your own tobacco and prepare it for pipe smoking? considering how heavily it is taxed, doesnt the government want their cut?
i am asking because i have heard of people producing their own biodiesel fuel and getting busted by the IRS for not paying taxes on it.
if that is possible, cant they also force you to pay taxes on the tobacco you grow? or am i not udnerstanding the incomprehensible tax laws correctly?

Scott, I believe it has to do with the soil and weather. Southern states great for growing tobacco. All others not so good.

"can't they also force you to pay taxes on the tobacco you grow?"
They can and most certainly they will. I got 3 letters for you- A.T.F. The birth of Nascar began in Georgia. Souped up V8 Fords running moonshine. People start growing there own bacca and new business opportunities will be created. Now thats Hope and Change we can believe in. LOL

Right now it is legal in the US to grow any amount of tobacco you want. How ever you aren't allowed to sell it without paying the taxes. For your own use no problem! I have over two hundred plants started for my first year of growing. Check out the forums on How To Grow Tobacco. http://www.howtogrowtobacco.com/forum/index.php

The outrageous taxes on cigs is the main reason I switched to pipes. A pound of bulk lasts me a month, give or take. Price is somewhere around the $35-$40 range plus shipping charges. When me and the wife were smoking it was over $200 a month at the local 7-11 for the generics we were burning up. She quit smoking and like I say, I switched to pipes. Just hope they don't pass that bill for the 775% tax increase.
