I live a couple hours southwest of a major hub in the southeast. USPS, UPS, FedEx, and DHL rarely do wrong by us. Unless it's an overworked rural carrier marking a package as delivered, forgetting to put it in our box, and bringing it the next day instead, our delivery is flawless. It helps to pay via credit card in case goods purchased are not delivered.

I have been absolutely flabbergasted at how efficient the USPS is. I've received vender's checks that had gotten ripped in whatever machinery they use, and received the check taped back in a USPS special envelope. Besides the humorous posts showing how the mail has to go out of state and back before they get the package or whatever it is... but, these type posts seem to always just be humorous and based on us mere mortals having NO understanding of how the mail works. I had a package once marked "mailbox", but it wasn't in my mailbox, and when I called, UPS, they told me that was their code for them having dropped it off at the USPO, for them to deliver it to my mailbox.
I don't pretend to understand all of this. But, it is interesting to me that every time Congress takes money out of the USPS, they publish about how the USPS is losing money. Then Congress forces them to deliver packages for other carriers (Their competition) at reduced rate (smokey backroom deals in Congress) they then publish how the USPS is losing money again. I have no idea why Congress hates the USPS, but it functions like a well oiled machine, unless you politically agree with those that seem to want to rob it or denigrate it. Hell, if it weren't for the USPS, UPS and FedEx would be out of business.

And now they’ve delivered a package this morning that I ordered from WCC (Boston to rural AZ) over a holiday weekend (Friday afternoon to this morning)😁

I filed a query with USPS regarding my parcel - the odd tracking and the fact it hasn't been updated at all since 8am Friday morning.

I'll givem this, they got back with me in a matter of a couple hours..

"Upon our investigation the parcel was mis-sent to 40213, currently rerouted to the correct zip code 40217.

Please accept our sincerest apology for any trouble this may have caused you. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you again in the future.

Sincerely,

I still don't see how there hasn't been any tracking updates or why it wasn't delivered Saturday or today. I better have a new pipe tomorrow.
40213 is the neighborhood just south of mine. It's also where the main branch of the PO is located.

Promising. It's on the same continent as you.

I can't stand USPS anymore! It takes them 5 days to ship a product from Richmond to Virginia Beach. 90 miles, 5 days. The Pony Express was faster. Even worse is paying for UPS only to have them outsource the "final mile" to the USPS. Product hits my town in a day from UPS, then USPS processes it and I received it on Wednesday or Thursday. Complete BS. My mailman is an ok guy, but the logistics of USPS straight up suck.
Richmond is the worst Ive ever seen..
So much so our Senator was just there because of it.

At 40 years old, I'm certainly not among the eldest members of this forum - BUT - growing up, there were big blue mailboxes on nearly every corner in my neighborhood.
Nowadays, they're so rare, I couldn't tell you where the closest one is (aside from the actual post office).
I miss those.
They have gotten rare because of the dirtbag low-lifes who decided they could force one open and still things like checks and gift cards.

Five or six times a year one of my sisters in Texas will ship a package to my wife and half the time the package is actually delivered in a timely manner. The other half of the time the package gets to the Regional Distribution Center in New Orleans (37 miles west of where we live) then it goes to another distribution center 15 miles north of New Orleans before being sent back to New Orleans and then sent to a distribution center in Baton Rouge before being sent back to New Orleans and finally to Slidell (where I live). It will usually arrive at the Slidell Post Office around 3:00 AM and sit there for another 24 hours before it is put on the delivery vehicle. Twice in the past three months I've received the tracking notice that the package was delivered. Neither time was it in my mailbox or by our door. I attempt to file a "missing package" report and the report is unable to be processed. One of the packages was magically delivered the next day. The second package was opened, the contents searched for anything valuable (it was bundles of fabric for my wife) and then the opened package was put by our door.

I've had the same mail carrier for over 20 years. I asked her about "Informed Delivery" and tracking. She said all the Post Office employees actually hates the tracking program because the system doesn't work very well.

I remember when it used to take 6 weeks to get a package delivered to anywhere. It used to take a few weeks to get a check cleared after we deposited it. That was not that long ago. Now, we all have microwaves, instant banking, smart phones, instant access to any website in the world, and when it takes a few weeks longer than we expect, it makes us all frustrated.

Yes, but now we have computers. Today one man can make more mistakes in a minute than 100 men could in a week, and at half the cost.

I remember “please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery”. I was ecstatic when it only took 4. #digital_overlords
