Hello gents, I have a newbie question you all. I thinking about buying a used meerschaum off ebay and I want to know, how do you go about cleaning it without damaging it? How do you know whether it good quality? Thank you all in advance ::

Welcome to the Forum......Use hot water to clean the inside of the Meer and alcohol to clean the inside of the stem.

ok, thanks a lot. I know next to nothing about meers so looking at the posted pictures, i saw a small crack along the side. Very small. Should that be a deal breaker?

A crack is a deal breaker. Abort, abort, abort. There are just too many used and new meerschaum pipes out there to futz with a broken one. After you get into the swing and want to try your hand at repair and restoration, go for it.
