Irish Hurling is a unique sport. They've got a GAA sanctioned team here near Cleveland at one of the Irish Clubs. It's a minor thing in the Midwest Irish-American communities, but HUGE (an understatement) in Ireland.
Full contact chess.
And that's not even factoring in the internal injuries acquired through consuming the now bacteria-laden cheese afterward.Never participated in it but cheese rolling almost certainly qualifies as an "unusual sport".

Calcio Storico. Played in Florence Italy since the Renaissance. Like a prison riot with a ball being tossed around.

I always thought Jai Alai looked neat. Never seen it played in person, or a full match, just short clips on TV and movies.
I watched last year's match on YouTube and holy crap that is something else. The ball seems more of an annoyance than an object of play

I saw some matches in Miami eons ago. It's very exciting, even not betting. The active arms on those guys is about twice the size of the non-basket arm.
