Coming back to give this a second look and I am aghast, I do believe that I've made a very grave error in appraising your pipe as the genuine article --- not too upset though, because the forger was of excellent skill and ability, as well as being aware of what collectors were looking for and how to make the pipe look completely authentic. In fact, the forger did such a convincing job that I would have stood confidently by my evaluation and defended my premises with upright vigor.
However, the clever faker did miss one tiny little detail, and that is what caught my eye.

I don't know how I missed it, but I did.
The pipe is lacking the very early manufacture nomenclature stamping of DUKE ST. S.W. which would have no doubt been on such a pipe, even moreso given that the Mogok specimen the faker was trying to copy was bespoke-made and without doubt carried the street address stamping --- O how the mighty fall!

However good they may be, almost every counterfeiter will stumble somewhere and this chancer fell flat on his face with such a glaring omission.
Going back and refreshing myself with John Loring's excellent scholarship greatly aided in my deductions.

So,

in sum, I humbly apologize for my earlier hypothosis and I'm truly sorry for getting your hopes up about early retirement, vacation houses, and Bahama cruises - for my error in judgement I will gladly send you a rubber check to cover all emotional trauma, just give me your mailing address and it shall be in the mail.
And, there is a small glimmering light at the end of this long dark tunnel,

and that is that the fake Dunhill does actually have a certain monetary value, you see, there are certain collector chaps who will add such a novelty to their collection as a conversation piece, and also emblematic of the strong allure surrounding the brand, I mean, there aren't many counterfeit pipes floating around out there, but Dunhill has quite a few and it only reinforces what a strong brand Alfred built, a solid testament to his legacy.
Don't fret too much, for the fake Dunhill will probably fetch a decent sum and maybe you can treat yourself to a nice steak dinner after all.
Witness the bidding frenzy on this ultra-rare smooth patent Dunhill Shell,

it is plain to see that it is a fake,

but people are frantically throwing money at it like it was a well-endowed stripper jiggling all tomorrows parties into an orgy of ecstasy!
In fact, I'm bidding on it myself, and had second thoughts about linking it here,

but at the moment I lack sufficient funds for high bidding to procure such an example,

so have at it lads!
