There’s some monetization to be had while he was operating a store front, and again if he opens a B&m with online store. Not all monetizations are exclusive to YouTube ads and a large viewing base will certainly help drive consumer traffic to an outside marketplace.

I was one of the folks here who defended the Pipe Cottage channel on YouTube. I really enjoyed the positive message and character Harrellson portrayed in them.

The latest video (parting shot) combined with the one prior have really turned me off. I believe I even heard rumblings of challenging people to duels, or some such,In this episode. Some people can’t let a perceived sleight go, I suppose. The channel went from 100% positive and entertaining to very angry and negative in almost no time. It’s a shame. I see it as a squandered opportunity.

The Parting Shot
One of the funny things about people there are types. And if you've never dealt with those types good for you, but if you have you start catching their red flags pretty easily.
There are some famous people that when people say they're great I think good for you never having dealt with someone like them before. This guy is like that for me. A certain under current of peevish anger.
Doesn't mean that every time those red flags are right but it can help understand why sometimes you don't see why other people just don't like somebody else.

I did laugh pretty hard when he complained that his critics don't know anything about him, though. I was like, "My brother in Christ, you told us all where you live, what you do, when you lost your virginity, etc. You cannot stop talking about yourself."
Oh wow the ole you don't know me. Which I usually respond with I never said I did, just that I can see what you're literally doing openly. I don't actually need to know you to know that certain behaviors aren't good. Example if Mr. Powell here tried to rob my place (not only would he be really bad at caseing a joint), I really at that moment would NOT have to think about what kind of guy he is or isn't to think man he shouldn't be doing this.
The not is big cause I forgot to add it the first time.

A good rule of thumb is to not argue with people on the internet and to COMPLETELY IGNORE (no watch, no comment, no like or even a dislike) trolls.

I’ll support the pipe cottage should it open to broaden the pipe world ecosystem but I hope these dramatic exchanges will cease. Smoke a pipe and be happy.

I can't watch pipe YT for the same reason I can't listen to podcasts -- the inefficiency of the information to time ratio.
5 minutes of reading a good book leaves me with 5 minutes of information.
5 minutes of YT or podcast leaves me with 2 seconds of information.

Don't get me wrong -- I'll embrace an inefficient information-time ratio for a live relationship. There's little better than bantering with a friend over a pipe.
But neither YT nor a podcast is a live relationship. So I'll read instead.
This is my issue with many YouTube videos as well. I'll often look up videos for specific informational purposes, and having to wade through many minutes of useless content just to get to the few seconds of information I'm looking for is irritating.

One of the most important things I think we’ve lost as a society is the ability to laugh at anyone and ourselves, while allowing everyone else to laugh at us. Folks seems so quick to take offense.

For example; If someone makes a funny redneck joke about me, I’ll laugh. Funny is funny. It lets society blow off a lot of steam.
People have gotten ridiculously soft and thin skinned. My wife was telling me last night that Prince Harry has written a book that features the apparently terrible trauma of his brother physically pushing him during an argument. When I was growing up I had a couple of friends who had younger brothers, and they would get into fist fights regularly, with medical care required on more than one occasion. It's bizarre to me that a grown man is publicly whining and crying about his older brother shoving him during an argument.

These days people are claiming PTSD over reading something online that they disagreed with or upset them.

Once upon a time I watched a few of the Muttonchop vids, other than those in terms of someone out maintaining a channel for the purpose of talking about or promoting pipe smoking as the goal, that's it. Haha, but I've now wasted time watching these! I could care less about some guy 2 people watch trying to make his channel relevant and attract subscribers by whining about (and misrepresenting quite a bit) something said by some guy 1000 people watch and not making any kind of point at until about 1/2 way into a 24 minute video, lol, and then most watched guy being silly enough to dignify it with a response and probably help kick up a fuss guy accomplish his goal.

This thread reminded me to see what Malcom Guite has been up to - a Anglican priest, poet, songwriter, academic, and so on (he was on this site's radio show early in 2022) - because he's entertaining and always puffing away on a pipe.

Turns out he read a new poem at a Carnegie Hall performance before Christmas and has a vid where he makes it public and talks a bit about that ---- wow, good stuff.

I watch at 1.75 to 2x for that very reason.
I loathe the intro:
“Whuts up YouTube, XXXX piper here….”
I've tried to nicely, diplomatically recommend to youtubers to not have long intros. Nobody wants to watch your 25-second intro every time they click into your feed. I get that they're proud of their editing, put in some work, and want to squeeze every last drop out of that effort, but...not good. 3 seconds at most, on a good day. None at all is best. Just get into it. We know where we are.

On another note. Did anyone notice that the tack room shows no signs of age or use? The wood looks brand new, no wear on any of the artfully arranged tack. Doesn't look like the tack rooms I knew years ago. Is this common now?
The one I grew up working in daily had plenty of spots where the horses had been cribbing. There was gnawed wood everywhere. Even a coat or burned motor oil didn’t stop the 1500 pound termites.

Our tack did look good though. Dad stayed on top of that while I mucked the stalls. He loved well-maintained leather.
