Hello guys,
The Amphora tobacco pot was my father's too and was filled with about 10oz of a loose cut, dark and golden blend in a sealed bag. Has a light nic hit but it is full bodied and has a deep leather, chocolote and plumish aroma. I cannot detect any casing in the flavor. It is a very smooth smoke. I revived it by spraying it with some distilled water et voila, it opened up like crazy. It's been aged for around 30 years, for I clearly remember buying the pot (which came filled) with my mother, together with the BC Sweet Chubby in my album, as a father's day present when I was around 10 or 11 years old. Overall, a great smoke although not satisfying nic wise. The bottom of the pot reads:

Original Modell

Zenith-Gouda

A° 1749

Holland
Any ideas?
Cheers,
J

These pots can still be found occasionally on flea-markets and garage-sales here in Holland. "Zenith" was the manufacturer of the pots which were used as promotional material in tobacconists' shops. The company also made pipes and their double-walled porcelain pipes still have a substantial group of enthousiasts: I've been told they smoke exceptionally dry and cool. Whether or not it is in fact an Amphora-blend you have in there I wouldn't know. Very nice pipe you have there, by the way.

Thank you very much for your reply Dukdalf. Guess I'll just keep smoking it without knowing what it is. It is a great smoke.
I lived in Enschede for almost 2 years. I loved it and the fact of having so many great places (Koln, Dusseldorf, Amsterdam, Brugge, etc)so close! And of course I had my fair share of Grolsch and bitterballen!
Cheers,
J
