Hey Ladies and Gents I just had my bank refuse to cash a United States Postal Money Order, but the little girl couldn't tell me why she just said they wouldn't cash money orders. I told her I understood about the weird over the counter ones at a convenience store but I was a little confused about one from the United States Post Office. I mean a gentlemen walked into a Federal faciltiy and laid down his money and purchased this. It is not a check or a Timbuktu off the wall money order from some mom and pop store, which I have never had a problem with either, by the way. Has anyone else experienced this anywhere or is New Mexico special ?

You may be right my friend. Lol... I have not used one in a while myself and I haven't gotten one in a while but they are still around.

Ah I used to rent out my house to a lady and once she bounced her rent check I made her give me cashiers check or money order. So here's the thing - most people that have to get money orders usually have poor credit or no bank account. Most banks will let you deposit a money order - but you were asking to cash it.

First of all, she was out of line refusing to cash the money order. Second, Post Office money orders are less expensive than cashiers checks; at least at BOA. Bank of America charges $15 for a check while the USPS charges something like $5.

Ask for a bank manager next time. That is unacceptable.

Brad, June works at the Columbia County Sheriffs Office now, but at the United States Post Office here in Emerson, Arkansas for 14 years before that. She says you're right. It's against the law to refuse cashing a USPost Office Money Order.... She said they are impossible to duplicate.... Of course if you're an idiot and will cash anything no matter what it looks like... well

Thanks Gents I appreciate the input. I was able to deposit it but they just wouldn't cash it was my issue. I remember a while back I had sent one of those that you buy at a convienance store to a gentlemen up North and he had trouble with it and in our correspondence he told me to alwasy use USPMO because they were basically the same as Federal Currency, and that is what I have done ever since, here lately I always use Paypal but on occasion I still use one , for instance when I bought my first Dunhill from Samcoffeeman, so the Mrs. wouldn't know what I paid for it, then again to Ryan Alden for my first commissioned pipe , again so the Mrs. wouldn't know what I paid for it, I have a great wife but she doesn't understand the difference in a Alden, or Dunhill vs. a Grabow or Kaywoodie.
anyway @ papipeguy- thank you sir I agree.

@ tbradsim1- thank you sir I thought that on a United States Postal Order but oncen't sure so didn't push it.

@ TopD- thank you sir for the clarification.
@ pylorns- thanks for the input but I have to respectfully disagree with you, just because someone does not have a Paypal account yet and choosed to use a money order does not mean they have bad credit or no bank account, and your point is valid on a personal check but the whole point of buying a money order , or Cashiers check is because you have to have money in hand and you pay for them in advance and they can't bounce. I do understand your point and your situation on your rent property though.
Again thanks to everyone for your input and clarification.

I bet the Teller just didn't know what it was.
But to me that isn't the best part of this post. The best part is that 1) I, too, bought my first Dunhill from samcoffeeman.. But that was on EBay before I even knew who he was, and 2) I have since bought a pipe on this site from him and used a USPO money order so that MY wife wouldn't know. It is nice to know that I am in no way unique . . .

How would your wife know how much you paid for it if you used paypal? Seems like you go through a lot of trouble just to hide stuff from the wife.
