The pearwood sitter I'm smoking in my avatar pic is one I got from the Ukraine, which the seller insists is briar (it's not)
But it is actually a good pipe, minus that the stem broke off in my hand after three weeks :crying: It did teach me to be a little gentler with a stuck stem.
It was nice enough of a smoke that I've considered sending it out for a custom stem.
I don't have tons of experience with it but I smoked that pearwood pipe plenty of times, and plenty hot, and it didn't show any signs of burn-out or become uncomfortably hot to the touch.
And I must say that these Ukrainians sure know how to carve a pretty looking pipe. Mine has no frills but there are tons of works of art on Ebay, as I'm sure you've seen.
I'm fairly certain though that pearwood doesn't have the same kind of longevity that briar does.
