UK Pipe Smokers....or Lack Thereof

Ah noooo.....I don't know one corner of a football from another I am afraid....The other less well known and less salubrious Newcastle is the one you are thinking of Newcastle upon Tyne even further up on the east coast (actually it's a great place but I ought to stick up for the local one ?)

Here in small town Ohio, I occasionally see an old man walking with a pipe and the rare guy driving with a pipe. I'm sure they're around like myself - usually restricted to smoking in the garage or at night alone. No local pipe shop.

It's pretty strict in the UK, but you can still smoke on public streets (for now). The reason you don't smoke in Oxford Cricus or Picadilly is because you'd have to be a complete lunatic and/or a tourist to ever want to go there. If you do go there, you will sure as hell need a smoke to get over it.

Northern UK..............Go out quite a lot to the pubs in Durham.....seen 1 pipe smoker in the last 10 years.

I like to smoke my pipe during the summer with a pint in the pubs beer gardens......or an occasional cigar. There's always plenty of cigarette smokers, an occasional cigar smoker ......but only 1 pipe in about 10 years.

I have spotted the local village landscape gardener with a Peterson in his kisser about 2 years back and one old geezer waiting for a bus with a very short bent pipe but that's about it!

I sit on a bench outside my local barbers and smoke typically. There is a nice sun trap there. I also smoke a lot when i'm out walking with my camera.

We pay about 7 pounds for 50 grams of pipe tobacco currently. I get most of mine shipped from Germany though, so I pay about 10 euros per 50 grams, depending on the brand.

Also Erinmore mixture is foul. I think I am in the majority on this position. The flake on the other hand is quite nice, though a little strong.

Erinmore seems to be one of the blends people either hate or love. I like it personally, but then I like just about everything except Aromatics.

The last person I saw smoking a pipe in public was over a decade ago in a cigar bar in Bakersfield, Commiefornia. I smoke solo in the backyard mostly. Pipe smoking occasionally with friends who consider it a novelty, but no every day smokers like myself. I make frequent trips to Las Vegas to visit family and friends where I enjoy my pipes in the casinos, one of the last bastions for unfettered public smoking that I’m aware of.

Now that it’s summer in Scotland…and I use the word summer loosely…18 degrees Celsius at most! I often sit in my front gardens in the evening with my fav corn cob with a smoky Latakia and regularly passers by stop and sniff the air a bit and smile and nod to me in greeting. Obviously still evokes good memories for those folk
