I stopped in at the local B&M today to pick up a tin of Presbyterian Mixture, as I had seen it on the shelf there previously, and have just recently learned that this blend might just be up my ally. I get the impression this store does most of its business in cigars, and most of their pipe tobacco tins look like they have been there for awhile. In the past I have found tins of Dunhill Standard Mixture with over 5 years of age on them, so it can be quite convenient to buy a tin of something new there and not have to wait a year or two for it to mature before trying it.
Anyway, the tins they had of PM were of two slightly different varieties. Both had paper labels (not painted) and the text on the labels were identical, which I believe is the most recent incarnation of the label art. However, for one type of tin, the label was more of a purple color and there was text printed on the side of the tin rim such as "Made in EU", "Air Tight", etc. The other tin did not have the text on the side of the rim, and the label was more of a dark navy blue color. I could take some pictures tomorrow and post them, if it helps, but the label art and text is the same as what would be shown on say Smoking Pipes' website.
From what I can find online, the tin with "Made in the EU" written on the side goes back to at least 2009. It is possible that at some point since then they stop printing anything on the side of the rim, such that the tin without the text would be newer. Does anyone know if that is the case, or do the most recently made tins have the text on the side?

I'm looking at a year or so old tin, nothing on the side of the rim. Bought in the U.S.

I looked through the umpteen Presbys I have, some of which are ancient and the rest I've gotten from the last ten years or so. I've picked up some tins in the last year, but I'm guessing they are old stock. In any case, all of them have that printing on the rim side, so I guess I don't have any fresh. I need to nab a tin though, just to see if the recipe has changed any. Over the years, I've heard of noticeable changes in the US and German versions.
