Two New Danes

A couple of new arrivals this week - both lightly smoked estates

The first is a Soren Refbjerg Rasmussen straight grain (his only grading) straight tomato with a tapered stem


The second is a 2003 Carsten Idskov brandy with a tapered acrylic amber stem with his hallmark sperm whale tooth ring.

When I go through my pile of pipes, I can only find one other tomato-ish shaped pipe
This Refbjerg just calls out to be cradled in hand

Idskov pipes are heavily influenced by Jens Tao
This brandy is one of the exceptions - a much more “classic” shape.
Which I much prefer.

Re-reading this I thought it might be taken the wrong way
What I meant was quality does not need to come at a high cost

Straight grain is the only grading Soren uses
His button work and drilling are exemplary
This and the Bulldog/Rhodesian I got last month are very light weight - effortless clenchers

Some years ago The Estate Pipe Shop in the UK had quite a few of his pipes (mainly all NOS) listed, but I couldn't afford them then, much to my regret
Both of my Refbjerg pipes are very well made - great drilling, comfortable buttons and light weight (effortless clenchers)

I can recommend them should you come across any of his pipes

My regret has always been NOT buying something that caught my eye. And it's no longer available.
I have had buyer's remorse on very, very few occasions.
