And all this Xerox had, but some fool with an MBA didn't think it was worth it. They didn't even patent it. Had a fully networked building, PCs on most desks, and cloud storage they could all access... and the business boys thought it was worthless. Thank god the engineers got permission to give full tours to Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, and the rest of the PC pioneers.
Guhrillastile and Jud you guys are so correct. Thankfully we had Al Gore to push for all those bills that helped fund all the developments only government backing and funding could make possible. Every single bill that came along dealing with this type of technology he backed fully, wish he articulated why he considered himself the father of the www, or at least the media and tech people would of mentioned these things. Without our tax dollars, none of this would be possible.
Hard to imagine that as a child 30 years ago, sitting in the EOD shack in Eglin AFB typing away talking to some bored Air Force guy in Hawaii, that I was at the forefront of the internet and would be doing the same thing today. Also, I got in so much trouble for doing that. Seems children weren't actually supposed to be using the Air Force's multi-million dollar computers and network to have a chat... in my own defense, that door was totally open.
And remember how much of a pain the bbs was for media, took forever to download a single picture. And even worse, sometimes they'd be in multiple parts. Without the world wide web, it would be real work to look at stuff. And a video like this would take all night, if you were lucky.
