Its been a nice run here where I work(6 years), my company contracts(printing services/post office services) out with a local college and our contract is not being renewed. They lowballed our initial bid and went with a cheaper alternative. Our bid maybe more expensive, but our service is top notch and that is worth every penny.

But everyone is trying to save as much as they can these days. I get it.

So, I will be moving back to our main facility until another similar opportunity comes along. I still have my job, same pay. Just will be a big difference for someone used to working independently.

Hoping this is a good thing.

That is a big change. I've had several comparable changes in my working life, moving away from or closer to the more

supervised headquarters, and being more or less independent. You've had the experience of working more independently,

so it seems to me that you would be a logical choice if someone is needed to do that in the future. However, there could be good

things about working in the bigger group, and it could include a kind of independence. Often times change surprises us,

and all the surprises aren't bad, or if they are bad, the can lead to better things. Hope this works out well for you. Sorry

about the contract running out. Your old customers may be sorry; the low cost option often turns out to be expensive.

Thanks guys. mso489, I agree. They've shot themselves in the foot like this before and we came in and saved the day. With it being summer, most faculty/staff are not here and will be shocked when they come back.

I'm not sitting here thinking I cannot be replaced, but I know this place like no other and what each person expects. Its gonna be a tough road for the next company as I have spoiled quite a few here.

Similar things happening here, Voorhees. Same reasons. All day long I hear our receptionist (who just got laid off, she's only here through the end of the week) telling people, "We are no longer their agency of record. Please contact Lowballers of Bigger City USA). Clients leaving us who we've practically been *family* with for decades. But new, hep young managers move in, seeing a lower price tag, and, having no relationship with us themselves, trade horses midstream. Not smart. *Already* hurting them, since the new company doesn't know them, their history, their brand, or their product lines NOR has the personnel to cover them yet.
You know, Voorhees, I'm hoping you're in with good folk. Old saying is, "People don't quit a job; they quit people." If you land among some good-natured folk with a cheery outlook, you've got it made. And if you don't, well... I hope you'll be the influence in their lives that turns them around and makes them good folks to work with -- and can bear with them till they do!
Good luck to you in your new location!

Lots of luck to you sir. I'm not one to accept change very easily either, and yet God keeps throwing me curveballs. One of these days, I'm going to learn how to hit one!

Luckily the company I work for has kept me in a job even during the recession. I have a great relationship with the owners and the people I work with. I did have continuous contact with them even being off site.

Jason, I can certainly identify with your situation. I've never been one that likes "change" if I were to be honest but sometimes these things are blessings in disguise. Prayers for you brother.

Vorhees, i definitely hear ya on your situation brother. I'm a gov't contractor for the CG and have been for the past 5 years and we are on the chopping block every year, actually our heads are on the guillotine at the end of this month. We are on our option years, but that could easily be denied and the contract lost, it's up to the government. If that happens, i'll be out of a job and SOL until another company picks me up. The lowball bidding and lowest bidder instances are becoming the norm for gov't contracting and we have seen our company bought out and virtually ALL our benefits erased within the past year as an indirect result of the lowest bidder syndrome. Keep your head up and just be thankful you have a job, things will get better. Some days that is the only thing that keeps me going, lol!
