Gorgeous pipe! I agree........... Brandy it is.
Curious, what's the wood in the background? Looks interesting!
It's Huon pine, a species found in Tasmania.
Very long lived and water-tolerant, hence prized as boat-building timber. A hand-crafted Huon pine boat is prohibitively expensive. .
Logging of live trees is prohibited, so salvage timber only - fallen trees and those salvaged from underwater (flooded, dammed areas)

Thanks! Interesting grain and knots........ I learn something new here everyday!

It could very well be a half-bent brandy shape, either way it is beautiful. Which carver is it by and how does it smoke?

You don't see many Ikebanas around here but I've been very keen to add a companion to mine as soon as I received it and first experienced the pipe in person, the craftsmanship is exactly what you can expect of the Japanese:

I really love how Japanese artisans seem to have a philosophy of bringing out the best of the material. Not like you said quite straight grained but more grain that flows with the shape. If I ever buy another expensive fancy as pipe it will probably be one of these.
