Most will call this a tomato shape. To me it is a squat brandy (as in brandy snifter)
Not quite 360 straight grain. But lovely, nonetheless

Definitely a brandy. Not round enough to be a tomato.

Tsuge Churchwarden, Squat Tomato, Four Knuckle Bamboo. The only Tsuge in my collection at the moment.

Yours is definitely a Brandy. Enjoy it in the best of health.

It's Huon pine, a species found in Tasmania.
Very long lived and water-tolerant, hence prized as boat-building timber. A hand-crafted Huon pine boat is prohibitively expensive. .
Logging of live trees is prohibited, so salvage timber only - fallen trees and those salvaged from underwater (flooded, dammed areas)

You don't see many Ikebanas around here but I've been very keen to add a companion to mine as soon as I received it and first experienced the pipe in person, the craftsmanship is exactly what you can expect of the Japanese:

I really love how Japanese artisans seem to have a philosophy of bringing out the best of the material. Not like you said quite straight grained but more grain that flows with the shape. If I ever buy another expensive fancy as pipe it will probably be one of these.

It's unsigned, but I'm pretty confident that it's by Fukuda-San.

It lobbed in on Friday, so I have not had a smoke in it yet. The drilling is spot-on, so I expect it to smoke really well.
