I have decided, in my dotage, to try some new (to me anyway) tobacco. I need some recommendations. I like a "natural" flavor. I can't stand latakia in any form. I want something with cavendish, burly, perique, etc preferably in a "rough cut", but will try other cuts if needed. I have ordered three new ones I found on the tobacco recommendations site--Solani, Orlik "golden slice", and Pease "Jack Knife plug." Any suggestions?

A couple for ya to consider.
Hearth&Home - AJ's VaPer - Virginia, Perique, Black Cavendish

A faint cotton candy kind of sweet from the Reds and BC mellows out but by no means covers up the Perique.

This is one I can and have smoked all day and enjoyed very much so.
Hearth&Home - Stogie - Virginia, Burley, Perique, Orientals, Black Cavendish, Cigar

Every thing but the kitchen sink I thought at first but Russ makes em' all work together very well. The cigar leaf makes for a bit of a rough and tumble edge that I particularly enjoy in the early evening.

OK, I ordered according to the recommendations, but I could not find those recommended by "pawpaw". Who makes "Hal o The Wynd" and "cumberland"? Thanks.

Hal o the Wynd is Rattray. G.L. Pease has a blend with the full title of "Original Mixtures: Cumberland" that is probably what he is referring to.
It really is helpful to mention the manufacturer, not just the blend. :puffy:

Oldmooner: I'm in the same boat. Try using the "advanced fine" feature on tobaccoreviews.com you can then select " no latakia" and add some selections. I made myself a list of recommended tobacco's this way.
Or you can of course do the obvious..ask here

Hey Mooner, I would have suggested Orlik Golden slice,

but it comes it two different tins. The two tines are cut

and packed different, The 50g tin are cut if small cakes,

and the 100g tin is cut in a long roll. They do smokem and taste

differently,so I would suggest getting a tin of each, just to see which

one you like better. I prefer the 100g tin, but thats

just me.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I have enough to run trials for quite awhile. Some, like "Escuedo", I have smoked before. It is a good one. I have ordered some others based on ya'lls recommendations. Thanks again.

Two Mac Baren tobacco's that come to mind are Club Blend and Dark Twist. They don't contain Burley or Perique though. But I would classify them as pretty natural and they come in a coin cut or roll cake. Excellent in my opinion.
