You obviously enjoy the VaBurPer type... (virginina/burley/perique)... lots of great options. maybe try Robert McConnels "scottish cake" as well.

IF you really love the HU directors cut then it would be illogical for you not to love HU Nashville County. get some NOW, what are you waiting for??
The word licorice appears in the tasting notes….. how much of that comes through as you smoke it?

I have never noticed it. It certainly is not an aromatic blend so if it has any licorice it is very subtle and just adds to the overall greatness of the blend. Funny, there was a blend by GH recently that came out touting licorice and when we all got it were somewhat disappointed by the lack of licorice flavor. Northstar maybe? I forget

I’ve seen a bunch of folks repping that one as well. I enjoyed a hefty bowl of Directors Cut today in a Peterson Pub… think that’s gonna do me in for today! 😅
Almost all I smoke are some combos of VA/Bur/per/kentucky. I don't smoke any Latakia but I do love the Gawith products especially the ones commonly called "lakeland"...

I love DC but I traded away my Nashville Country. Im not saying it was not a good blend but something in it...maybe the topping just kept me from ever reaching for it.

To my tastes, Director's Cut is a smoother version of Doblone D'Oro. It's also double the price.
If you don't mind a bit more rough burley (I think it's dark fired Kenyan leaf) I recommend Doblone.

Like you, I am not thrilled by them being a bit higher, but next time I see them on sale I might pop and grab 10 and let them sit around, prices are not getting cheaper.
Or maybe trade for some at some point

Honestly, I get what you mean about the “if you like this, you’ll like that” advice, it’s often more confusing than helpful. I’ve bought plenty of blends that sounded perfect and ended up just sitting in my drawer. Based on what you said about loving HU Director’s Cut and Mac Baren Stockton, it seems like you enjoy smooth, aromatic blends that aren’t too heavy. I’d say PH Curly Block is worth a shot since it’s mild and nutty, easy to smoke, and in the same vein. Bayou Morning Flake is a bit different, more Virginia-forward with some sweetness and body, but I personally found it enjoyable once I got the hang of it. If you’re looking for a few other options in the same style, Orlik Golden Sliced or Mac Baren 7 Seas Regular have a similar smooth, aromatic vibe.
