Blackhouse, I can always be assured of a good tasty smoke, I've put away quite a bit and won't feel truly safe until I've got at least forty pounds of it put away.

"Tastes change day to day, so nothing is really constant when it comes to pipe smoking. "
I have to absolutely agree with this. The OP is asking for the Mood Ring of pipe tobaccos -- the blend that you're going to like no matter how you're feeling, what the weather's like, what pipe you smoke it in, how fast/slow you smoke it.
I don't think such a blend exists. There are days when even my all-time favorites just don't suit me.

Two blends that I bought when I first started out Peterson's Old Dublin and McClelland Jubilee. For whatever reason they usually provide me with a nice smoke.

I find Dunhill Flake and MacB's Vanilla Flake to be consistently good smokes. Both bloody lovely, as well!

This is a good thread, guys.

I've added several of your recommendations to my P&C wish list.
I like EMP and Escudo.

965 is new for me, but it's been good so far and I've added a few pinches of it to my walking around pouch.
I emptied my tin of Nightcap a while ago, but I have a new one waiting in the wings until I finish one or two other open tins.
Three Nuns is good for me, too.
and I don't care what some of you say, I trust that Gentleman Caller will be good smoke whenever that pipe's turn comes around.

I'm with rmbittner on this. Sometimes even my favorites don't work for me.

I am partial to Lane blends: MV-1000 and 1-Q. Since both are Virginia based once you open the tin/bag the taste may change somewhat over the subsequent weeks. Of course if you smoke it all in one day, no problem...
