What blends do you consider to be consistently reliable? I ask this question because there are some blends that I smoke that are just fantastic some days, but really not on other days, depending on my palate, the pack, the moisture content, etc. Others I find to be much more consistently "reliable" and perhaps not as sensitive to other variables.
Nightcap and Escudo, and maybe bulk blend Old Dark Fired come to mind for me.
thanks

Tastes change day to day, so nothing is really constant when it comes to pipe smoking. That said, not a day has passed in the last 4 months that I didn't have at least one bowl of ODF.

Dunhill's Nightcap and Flake, Red Rapparee has also been very reliable.

Both Gawiths are very consistent, too.

Agree with 965/Nightcap, Old Dark Fired and Orlik Golden Sliced. Actually also agree with Carter Hall, OTC though it may be - it really does go well in a cob.
I would add a favorite of mine: Luxury Navy Flake. Need to try that Escudo everyone raves about :)

MacBaren Navy Flake. My go to old reliable. There are a few I like better, but regarding value, consistency, and availability, well it is hard to beat. Great tobacco flavor, excellent burning qualities, and a nice nic level. Not to much. But you know you smoked a pipe. Good mouthfeel, no drying time and seems to smoke well in any pipe. Love it!!

Another vote for Orlik Golden Sliced. I smoke a lot of this stuff and I usually reach for it when I can't decide what to have. It tastes like Players RYO smelled when I was a kid.

McC's bulk 2015. Some days it seems better than others, so maybe the consistent reliability isn't there, but whenever I can't make up my mind it always leaves me satisfied.

Just finished a bowl of PS Balkan Supreme while the sun went down. It's always been a very consistently pleasant smoke for me indoors or out.

A "reliable" blend? That translate, for me, a blend which delivers a consistently decent smoke every time in any pipe I own. The only one to be "reliable" is Lane 1-Q. No it's not great. Consistently decent every time? You bet.
Just my dos centavos.

I'm moving out of my aro smoking days, but I still burn them for the sake of others at work and so my car doesn't reek of VAs. I haven't been smoking anything else long enough to say with certainty that it is a "reliable."
Molto Dolce is the best I could come up with from my year of smoking.
Oh! Ruins of Isengard from Just for Him, I love that stuff too.

Orlik Golden Slices usually scratches the inch that other blends can't reach.

SG/Medium Va Flake is pretty reliable too, if only because "what's not to like about it".

That's 100% subjective.

Note, however, that many of the blends mentioned here are OTCs - simple blends that are designed to be smoked all day and develop a consistent taste.
