Welcome! The comment about having lived so long with limited technology makes me wistful. While the Internet does have a positive role to play I often think technology has made our "real lives" as much poorer as richer. But then again, I'm probably one of only a handful here without a smart phone, who doesn't text, has never had a social media account of any type, and still uses Post-It Notes (instead of an electronic calendar) to remind me of things... :)

Happy smokes from Northern Germany and welcome to this fine forum. puffy
Technology can be a wonderful and marvelous thing but it's also a blade with two edges, and one of those edges is very sharp. If you don't know what side or site you face you can easily cut yourself.

However, in this little part of the web you'll only get tongue bite if you're unexperienced and smoke too hastily.
Comparable with all the information a new piper has to deal with.

You'll be well here, enjoy!

wow that's a good place to start. The tobacco. Ireland seems nice too. Oh and we're such nerds here that we love any tobacco history stuff.

@Livingstone @Chaukisch I've smoked a packet of Erinmore Mixture in my clay pipes; I found it burns hot in a clay.
This clay pipe smoking Redcoat welcomes you to the forum from Chesterfield, Derbyshire.
My favourite places to smoke a clay pipe are Cromford and Old Brampton churchyards.
I'm interested in traditional crafts such as weaving, basket making and woodcarving. I made myself a handmade linen shirt during the COVID pandemic based on a Viking / medieval pattern.
Too much technology can be a curse; Dad says if I wasn't into computers I'd be like the Amish...

@Livingstone,
A warm welcome from Sydney, Oz
Erinmore was one of the blends I started out with in the early 1970s
Still one of my favourite blends today.

Originally from Malaysia, but resident in Australia since 1967.
Schooled by quite a few Irish teachers.
Which may or (not) have influenced me in my choice if my Irish(and Scottish) wife 😏

Here‘s hoping to hear a lot more from you

Welcome from Edinburgh Scotland. Pity they don’t make tins like that anymore, thanks for the pic upLoad. Please do upload more. I yearn for a time when I did not spend 70 percent of my life in a virtual world( it’s my work) so honestly you have not missed much with new technology.
People used to play computer games to escape reality….now people go to green fields and forests to escape the reality of internet, a beautiful irony in there .
Welcome to the forum, lovely folk here. 😁

Welcome. Your user name is interesting in that my hal-brother was a Livingston. As to my user name, well my family hasn't actually lived around the emerald isle for around 180 years or so.

Welcome from an Irish diaspora of the American south.
Many thanks indeed, for the kind welcome. I had a 'look around' the Internet this afternoon, and can see little point in my staying ... The looming threat that any utterance involving moral integrity or discernment may see one censored and removed ... not an environment for me. Your greeting today, however, is very much appreciated. Thank you once again. PL

Many thanks Bob, Waterstones on Princes Street was my place to get lost ... lived in Innerleithen 2000-2004 ... wife from Rosslyn. No, I was mentioning to another member who bid me welcome, that I probably will just leave the Internet again: not the place for me - the censoring threat everywhere is well beyond Orwellian. There are certainly 'uploads' on my Internet Site, if you fancy a look there ... but, honestly, cannot see any point in me remaining. Do have a look at the pipe portraits, if you are interested. I currently live in 10 acres of forest in British Columbia, along with a family of bears - and have been very contented with that: my life and interest stopped at about 1977, no interest at all in technology. And, the Internet shocked me today. Very nice to find a different feeling here. Lovely to hear from you, Bob. All the best for now, PL
